19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
