Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior political figure said the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
